  Lorena Reyes, who visited San Francisco for the Independence Day holiday,
  told the broadcaster, 'I didn't do anything, at that point I didn't know
  if they had a gun.'
  
  Her daughter, Erica Reyes, added: 'They just took anything they
  thought was valuable.'
  
  Both families explained they were told by desk clerks and car rental agents not to leave
  anything of value in their vehicles because such crimes are a major problem in the city.   
  
  The unnamed woman who took the video told NBC she knew to zoom in on the thief's license plate because 'smash
  and grabs' are common.

  far the city has fallen from its image of wholesomeness. 
  
  The attacks come after embattled California Governor Gavin Newsom
  decided to double the presence of state police to
